Swedish laboratory chain saves 32.000 Euros in Waste Management

ALcontrol is a European-wide laboratory chain for environmental and food testing. In Sweden ALcontrol has an annual turnover of 28 Million Euro and is headquartered in Linköping.

In order to find extra profit for new investments Mikael Kemi, CEO at ALcontrol, assigned Jan Hägersand from Expense Reduction Analysts to reduce the non-core spendings. In cooperation with ALcontrol’s CFO Maria Elken Person, Expense Reduction Analysts identified waste management as an important category with cost saving potential. The project was conducted by Expense Reduction Analysts expert Jonas Scherp, in order to gain the best results.

ALcontrol spent 110.000 Euro annually on waste management which was split in various sections like microbiological, chemical, BSE and regular waste. The company worked with four suppliers and was satisfied with the provided services. Nonetheless, ALcontrol assumed not to have the best prices. For that reason, Expense Reduction Analysts analyzed the spendings and prepared a tender in which all existing suppliers were invited.

As a result of the tender, ALcontrol achieved a price reduction by almost 29 percent. All incumbent suppliers came back with lower prices and improved proposals for work processes.

Maria Elken Person, CFO of ALcontrol, was very pleased with the results: “We are very happy with the achieved savings. Furthermore, we did not need to invest much time in the project and could focus more on our core costs.”
